10 Great Tips for Navigating Remote Working

100 years ago, never could we ever have possibly imagined where we would all mostly be working from home, from our bedrooms, kitchens, the study, dining tables or couches. Whilst times have changed and given us more freedom to work from our homes and have those extra couple of hours a day to spend with our families or doing the things that we love, it also has come with some minor drawbacks and challenges too. Here are some tips to help you stay productive and maintain a healthy work-life balance while working remotely: 1. Set Up a Dedicated Workspace: Create a designated and comfortable workspace where you can focus on work. A dedicated workspace helps create a professional and focused environment, which can significantly boost your productivity. When you enter this space, your mind associates it with work, making it easier to concentrate on tasks. This helps mentally separate work from home life and leisure.

2. Establish a Routine: Routines promote consistency in daily life. Doing the same tasks or activities regularly helps maintain order and predictability, reducing stress and anxiety. Stick to a regular daily schedule. Wake up, start work, and take breaks at consistent times to establish a healthy routine that works best for you.

3. Dress for Success: Whilst many of us would rather lounge around the house in our comfy loungewear and you don't need to wear a suit at home, changing out of pajamas and into comfortable yet work-appropriate attire can help shift your mindset into "work mode."and away from getting a little too comfortable in our own homes.

4. Plan Your Day: Use to-do lists, calendars, or task management tools to plan your tasks and prioritise your work. This will help you stay focused and organised, and you can also set goals and planning your day around them ensures that you make progress, helping you keep your day-to-day moments aligned with your long-term aspirations.

5. Minimize Distractions: It's easy to get distracted when working from home, and all of our distractions are completely different, so the easiest thing to do is to identify common distractions in your home and try to take small steps to minimize them. This might include turning off phone notifications, the TV or the Radio or having a room where you can close the door and focus without interruptions and distractions.

7. Take Regular Breaks: It can get easy it get wrapped up in a task for hours and hours without realising how much time has flown past. Creating a schedule with short breaks reminders throughout the day to rest your eyes, stretch, and recharge. Taking regular breaks can help you feel more refreshed throughout the day, boost productivity and reduce burnout.

8. Stay Active: Exercise offers a wide range of physical, mental, and emotional benefits and incorporating regular physical activity into your routine can have a significant positive impact on your overall health and well-being. Incorporating as little as 20mins of physical activity into your routine a day to stretch, take short walks, or exercises during breaks will help your mind, body and soul stay healthy.

9. Maintain Work-Life Balance: Clearly define the end of your workday. It can be so easy to reply back to that one last email or to tackle that one last business problem that has cropped up towards the end of the day but avoid overworking, and disconnect from work-related tasks and emails after your designated work hours. It's okay to say "No" and pick things back up in the morning when you're refreshed, focused and clear-minded and ready to start the day.

10. Self-Care: Prioritise lots of self-care activities, including meditation, mindfulness, or hobbies, to reduce stress and promote mental well-being. Taking time out to do the things that make you feel good will help benefit you a lot in the long run and boost your overall productivity.

Remember that remote work is a skill that can be refined over time. It's important to find what works best for you and continuously adapt to create a productive and balanced remote work environment.
