1. Gratitude
Starting your day is an extremely simple such an important tool for boosting positivity into our lives. Studies have shown that practicing gratitude every day has a positive impact on our bodies, our minds and our relationships. The best way to start practicing gratitude is to start writing down the top 3- 5 things that you are grateful for. You may decide to start with something small initially, perhaps a gift or a kind gesture from a stranger or even a close family member. Once you start to build the habit of practicing gratitude daily it will begin to feel more natural and flow more regularly and you will start to find that your mood starts to improve instantly.
2. Meditate
Meditating has tonnes of benefits such as reducing stress, improving sleep, focus and increasing overall health and happiness. Meditation is not about blocking out all of your thoughts, it's about observing them without judgement and learning to detach from them. This helps us to become more present, understand how we're feeling and also why we experience emotional responses in certain situations. There is no right or wrong way to meditate and eventually you will find what works well for you. All you need to get started is a quiet space where you can sit comfortably for 20mins, focus on your breath and observe any thoughts and feelings that come up. Once you start to do this regularly, you can start to try different types of meditations and find the ones that work best for you.
3. Stay hydrated
Drinking water is crucial for keeping all the functions in your body working properly. Not drinking enough water can lead to dehydration, headaches, fatigue, low moods and weaker work out sessions so it's really important to keep your body in a healthy state and to improve your focus throughout the day.
4. Work out
Exercising helps to release feel good endorphins which has a positive impact on your mood, health and can help to reduce high levels of stress.
There's a whole range of activities to get started with...
Running, Cycling, Walking, Swimming, Tennis, Yoga Classes and many many more...
When it comes to selecting a work out, pick something that you know you will enjoy and something that you can continue to keep up in the long run. The important part is making sure you're getting your blood pumping and endorphins flowing to help you feel at your best everyday!
6. Visualisations
Visualising your goals helps you to see your end goal - and if you're able to see it, you're more likely to achieve it!
As well as visualising your goals, you can use it as a tool to help visualise your day. You could focus on what you would like your day to look like and what you would like to achieve.
All you need to get started is...
- 5-10 minutes
- A quiet place where you can sit for a couple of minutes.
- A goal to focus on.
- A mental construct or image to visualise the goal.
You can do this silently or whilst listening to an empowering soundtrack to get you into a good state of mind so do whatever feels comfortable for you. There are also tonnes of resources and guided visualisations to help walk you through step-by-steps that are great to help you when you're getting started too!
7. Affirmations
Affirmations help boost your mood, energetic frequency and in the long-term they can even help to rewire your thought patterns in your brain so that they start to change.
Affirmations are statements made in the present tense and are usually spoken in the first person. For example; If one of your goals is to improve your confidence and get over your fears of public speaking, one of your affirmations that you might repeat could be "I am fearless" or "My words and thoughts come effortlessly to me".
The great thing about affirmations is that you can create them for almost any area in your life. All you need is a pen and paper to write them down, a place to stick them somewhere and yourself so you can read them out aloud.
It's almost like giving yourself a pep talk. Once you'll start to do this regularly you will start to notice that you feel more confident and your mindset and limiting beliefs will also start to shift!
8. Read
Finding time to read has never been easier. With technology at it's peak, we now have kindles and all sorts of downloadable audiobooks that you can listen to anytime! My greatest tip for reading would be to find books in areas where you want to develop yourself and grow and to pick authors that could mentor you. You can then use their books as a source of mentorship to find out what's worked or hasn't worked and lessons they've learnt. You don't need to take too much time out of your day, however reading for 30mins a day on your journey to work or listening to an audiobook at the gym will certainly help you increase your knowledge and wisdom, and will hopefully inspire you to think differently than you had before!
